The 2020 Oscars took place over the weekend, and it was quite an eventful one. Many well-deserved awards were given to established and well-dressed actors. So much happened that Sunday night, but here are the more notable events.
This is one of the most popular categories. We all want our favorite actors to win, and that happened to many people. Also, we feel the need to mention that the best actor award was well-deserved.
Best Supporting Actress: Laura Dern in Marriage Story
Best supporting actor: Brad Pitt in Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood
Best Actress: Renée Zellweger in Judy
Best Actor: Joaquin Phoenix in Joker
We like it when our favorite celebrities win, but the best movies deserve some love too. Spoiler alert: the movie Parasite got lots of love.
International Feature Film: Parasite
Best costume design: Jacqueline Durran for Little Women
Best Director: Bong Joon-ho for Parasite
Documentary short feature: Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl)
Documentary feature: American Factory
Animated Feature Film: Toy Story 4
Notable performances and Moments
Janelle Monet opened the event with a rendition of “It's a Beautiful Day in This Neighborhood,” the theme song to the show Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. While she sang, she placed her hat onto Tom Hanks’ head and then transitioned into her song “Come Alive,” which had altered lyrics to fit the night (ex. “We're dancing in the dungeon Monday night” was changed to “we’re at the Oscars Sunday night.”). Not only was there an excellent performance, but there were also great speeches too.
Elton John and Bernie Taupi won the Oscar for the Original Song category. Taupi began his acceptance speech with “wow, this doesn’t suck” while John ended the speech by saying, “Daddy loves you” to his sons Zachary and Elijah. Also, James Corden and Rebel Wilson wore kitty costumes.
These costumes are great, but there are some looks that we liked better.
Fashions of the night
Do you think this would get ignored by a fashion retailer? No way in hell! There are far too many great Oscar outfits for us to ignore.
Cynthia Erivo’s hair matches her dress, now that’s fashion dedication! We are suckers for a classic leg slit, and bra cups are a sexy option for any dress bodice, and they look fantastic with all those stones. Also, those arms are goals.
Sandro Oh looks oh so fabulous. Sometimes people use the word beige as a synonym for boring, but this dress is anything but that. Those big sleeves and deep V are life.
We love Billy Porter’s style. There is so much going on with this outfit, and we love it all. Who doesn’t love a few gold leaves?
Look at all these pretty ruffles! Great job, Lawrence Pugh, for your performance in Little Women and on the red carpet.
The 92nd Oscars Ceremony was impressive, star-studded, and fashionable as always. All the excitement could hardly fit on one blog post, and we would strongly encourage watching it if you missed it.
